Visions of lying on a beach enjoying ocean breezes can be enjoyed in any environment with the addition of a rope hammock. They make a perfect extra space for any outdoor area. Rope is a material that is durable and colorfast and is as soft as cotton making it a great choice to use. They come in 60 inch widths and can accommodate one or two people comfortably for a romantic retreat providing space to relax in the sun or under ones favorite tree.
They come equipped with tree hooks and chains for easy installation anywhere. There are accessories available such as pillows which are a must have for additional support for the head and neck. A bolster style pillow can be added that is the entire length of the hammock. Throw pillows add a touch of style and comfort. These accessories are sold separately. If you do not wish to attach yours to a tree, a stand is included for installation anywhere you choose.
The story of the rope hammock is that a river boat captain in North Carolina spent a lot of evenings out on his boat and the mattress he used was filled with grass which only added to the heat and humidity of the area. Being that he was so uncomfortable he decided to try sleeping in a hammock.
Since the time of Columbus when he brought them over from a trip through the Bahamas after seeking out the New World, they have been in use and improved upon taking on the style of the country they were used in. In the later 1800s sailors the world over began using them aboard ships and the British were using them for their navy. But these were constructed from canvas and were small, they did not have great air circulation and were hot and uncomfortable. They were known to easily tip as well.
The river boat captain decided to improve upon this design to allow more air circulation and softness. The rope hammock came to be with its lattice design and the elimination of uncomfortable knots. This design is still employed today, with a few improvements like spreader bars for added width. People the world over enjoy sleeping and relaxing in them for their ease of set-up and comfort.
